SAML metadata expiry time extremely short

I have configured a project to use SAML, and provided the SAML metadata URL to the client app. (/saml/v2/metadata)
However, the expiry time of this metadata appears to be 5 minutes from now, which is extremely short. We have run into problems where users cannot login because the metadata has expired.
We can fix this by refreshing the metadata URL every 5 minutes or less, but this seems like an extremely short lifetime. Surely something like 24 hours would be more appropriate?
Is there a way this setting can be configured? We are self-hosted. Thanks
