Questions about new SCIM feature & Commercial License

The new SCIM feature, which is currently in preview seems very promising for my business, since we're a B2B SaaS with per-seat pricing in Germany. What I don't quite get is the commercial license. So the feature, when generally available will only be accessible with a commercial license, right? A few specific questions: - Is the commercial license the same as the Enterprise Pricing tier, or something separate? - How does enforcement work for self-hosted deployments? - Is there a separate version of Zitadel for enterprise customers, or just license key validation? - Why will this feature be locked behind a commercial license, while no other features are? - Do you plan to build more features in the future, that are only accessible with the commercial license? - Any ballpark pricing guidance for the commercial license? Since we're looking to migrate to Zitadel and need SCIM for customer onboarding, clarifications on this topic would be amazing! 😄

@Matías Any chance for quick feedback on the SCIM licensing questions above? We have an auth provider decision deadline today and Zitadel is our preferred choice - just need clarity on the commercial license structure to move forward.

Hey there! Let me try and complete the picture for you here. 😄
Is the commercial license the same as the Enterprise Pricing tier, or something separate?
The Enterprise tier (and our Pro tier) are both part of our commercial offering. These tiers come with commercial terms and conditions, which differ from the obligations you encounter with the AGPL version.
How does enforcement work for self-hosted deployments?
That's a great question! Could you clarify what you mean by "enforcement" in this context? Are you asking about technical enforcement (like license keys or feature toggles) or more about the contractual and legal aspects of the commercial terms? Knowing more about your specific concern will help me provide a precise answer.
Is there a separate version of Zitadel for enterprise customers, or just license key validation?
As of today, it's the same version of Zitadel. The difference lies in how it's licensed: if you enter into a commercial agreement with us, you'll be covered by our commercial terms instead of the AGPL terms.
Why will this feature be locked behind a commercial license, while no other features are?
We are currently preparing a pricing change that should make our offering clearer. Our goal is to keep core functionalities free in the open-source version, while introducing additional enterprise-grade capabilities and services designed for larger organizations and specific use cases. These commercial add-ons will enhance the platform's value for businesses with advanced needs. For SCIM specifically, while this is not yet set in stone, we are considering keeping it available in the OSS version, and in the new pricing model, we would charge in a pay-as-you-go fashion based on the number of SCIM connections.
Do you plan to build more features in the future, that are only accessible with the commercial license?
Yes, there will be features exclusive to the commercial versions. For example, we are actively working on capabilities that will allow you to better mitigate bots and understand if a user is being targeted by an AI agent. Such capabilities, among others, will be part of our commercial offering. To us, it's important to keep Zitadel a solid identity platform for everyone. Our mission is to ensure the fundamental security of individual users, and therefore, we won't put essential user-centric security features behind a paywall. This commitment focuses on protecting the end-user's security, separate from features primarily governing organizational policies.
Any ballpark pricing guidance for the commercial license?
The best way to get accurate pricing guidance tailored to your specific needs is to hop on a quick call with us. You can schedule one here: https://meetings-eu1.hubspot.com/jason-burkhead/zitadel-discovery-call Hope this helps already

Yes, that helps a ton, thank you very much. Hopefully SCIM will be available in the OSS version once it's generally available. Our plan is to first stay on the self-hosted version and when we're scaling up switch to Cloud for reliability. Having the security of SCIM in the OSS Version first would give us a great confidence betting on this solution. Regarding enforcement: I was just interested on how you'll implement a feature in the OSS version, that is locked behind a paywall since the code is, well open source.

Ah I see what you are looking for. We will introduce a license mechanic at one point to unlock some of the commercial features while still keeping the code under AGPL.

Hello! So, by the end of the day. Will it be possible to use SCIM for free on self hosted solution? Thanks in advance for the answer.
